In 1966, the Ford Mk. II had become reliable. Shelby test driver Ken Miles managed to win at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring with the big block Ford. Ford sent no less than eight Mark II to La Sarthe, entered by three teams: Shelby, Holman & Moody and Alan Mann Racing. 1966 Pontiac LeMans. Is does not run. It has the engine but no transmission. The 1966 Le Mans 6 Hour Race was an endurance race for Sports Cars, Improved Production Touring Cars and Series Production Touring Cars. It was held at the Caversham Circuit in Western Australia on 6 June 1966 over a six-hour duration. The race, which was the twelfth Six Hour Le Mans race, was won by Ron Thorp driving an AC Cobra 289. After the 86 th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans – actually a couple of months from now – one of the Ford GT40s which ran at the 1966 Le Mans in Ford’s historic 1-2-3 domination of the podium is up for auction.
